How To Keep A Sharp Mental Edge

To keep up in this day and age, adaptability is an essential trait to have. With an ever-changing landscape of technology and innovation, it is easy to fall behind and lose your mental edge. So what can we do to keep the brain sharp?

  1. Never stop learning - The term "lifelong learner" should be something we all strive for. Learning something new every day not only helps you stay current, but it also helps to keep your brain functioning at optimal level.
  2. Sleep - Getting enough sleep is one of the most essential aspects of keeping a sharp mind. Without proper rest, your brain cannot, and will not serve you like it should.
  3. Regular Exercise - More and more studies are finding that being physically active for about 30 minutes each day will not only boost the health of your body, but also the health of your brain.
  4. Take time to De-Stress - No matter how busy you are, set aside time every day to de-stress. Some people find prayer and meditation is a great form of de-stressing. I also like hitting a little white ball.
  5. Do the crossword - or a puzzle, or Sudoku. Anything you can do throughout the day to give your brain a little workout will help to increase your ability to think.
  6. Use all your senses - It is proven that when we use all or most of our senses when learning something, our ability to retain and interpret information increases. When you use more than one of the senses to learn something, increased portions of the brain are working to help you remember.
  7. Repetition - When learning something new, do it again, and again, and again. You are only going to improve with every repeated try. Matter of fact perform any task 21 times and it becomes a habit.
